Terms of Service

Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using TreeLinker. By creating an account or using the app you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using TreeLinker you confirm that:

  • You are at least 13 years old (or 16 in certain EEA countries).
  • You have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
  • You will use the app in compliance with these Terms and all applicable laws.

2. The Service

TreeLinker is a private, local-first family tree and memories mobile application available on Android. The app allows you to:

  • Build and visualize a family relationship graph.
  • Attach memories (photos, notes, dates, locations) to people in your tree.
  • Create private family groups and share memories with invited members.
  • Receive reminders for upcoming family events and occasions.
  • Optionally sync your family data to a secure cloud database.

3. Your Account

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You must provide accurate and complete information when creating your account.
  • Notify us immediately at treelinkerapp@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
  • You may not transfer your account to another person without our written consent.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use TreeLinker to:

  • Post or store content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable.
  • Upload malware, viruses, or any other malicious software.
  • Infringe intellectual property rights of any third party.
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or falsely represent your relationship with a person or entity.
  • Collect or harvest personal information from other users without their consent.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the service, other accounts, or connected systems.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the app.
  • Use the service for commercial purposes without our prior written consent.

5. Your Content

You retain ownership of all content you create within TreeLinker — including your family tree, memories, photos, and notes ("Your Content").

By using the app you grant TreeLinker a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process, and display Your Content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account.

You are solely responsible for Your Content and represent that you have all rights necessary to grant the above licence.

6. Family Groups & Shared Memories

When you create a family group and invite other users, or when you post a memory to a shared group:

  • Other group members can view memories you post to the group.
  • You are responsible for the content you share within a group.
  • Group administrators can remove members and delete the group.
  • Leaving or deleting a group removes your access to that group's shared content.

7. Push Notifications

TreeLinker uses Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to deliver push notifications about group invitations, shared memories, and upcoming events. You can disable push notifications at any time in your device's system settings or within the app's Settings screen.

8. Privacy

Your use of TreeLinker is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the app you also agree to the Privacy Policy.

9. Third-Party Services

TreeLinker uses the following third-party services to operate:

  • Neo4j AuraDB — cloud graph database for optional remote sync. Subject to Neo4j's own terms and privacy practices.
  • Google Firebase (Cloud Messaging) — push notification delivery. Subject to Google's terms and privacy practices.

We are not responsible for the practices of these third-party services.

10. Intellectual Property

The TreeLinker name, logo, app design, and underlying software are owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not use our name, logo, or branding without our prior written consent.

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on a device you own or control, solely for personal, non-commercial purposes.

11. Service Availability

Because TreeLinker is local-first, most features are available offline at all times. Cloud sync and push notifications require an internet connection. We aim for high availability of our cloud services but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features with reasonable notice.

12. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the app will be error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that the service or its servers are free of viruses or other harmful components.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, TreeLinker shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including loss of profits, data, or goodwill — arising from your use of or inability to use the service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months prior to the claim, or (b) USD $10.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold TreeLinker and its officers, directors, employees, and agents harmless from any claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the service, Your Content, or your violation of these Terms.

15. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, with or without notice, at our sole discretion. Upon termination your right to use the app ceases immediately.

You may terminate your account at any time by following the instructions on our Delete Account page. Account deletion permanently removes all your data from our systems.

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in the jurisdiction where TreeLinker is registered.

17. Changes to Terms

We may revise these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes at least 14 days before they take effect — by email, in-app notice, or both. Continued use of the app after the effective date of changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
